Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) launched its first Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) Caravan on November 15 at SM City Laoag, offering consultations, program orientations, and on-site eligibility assessments for working professionals and prospective learners.
The said caravan aims to make degree completion more accessible for individuals with significant work experience, particularly those who have been in the workforce for at least five years. Information booths, including the MMSU College Admission Test and Admissions desk, also guided senior high school students on available academic programs.
Throughout the event, attendees received assistance in document preparation, competency assessment, program selection, and screening.
In her video message, Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, who earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2023 through ETEEAP, congratulated the university for its commitment to inclusive and transformative education, recognizing the program’s contribution in validating the gained knowledge, skills, and expertise of individuals outside formal education systems.
“The provincial government stands in full support of MMSU’s ETEEAP initiatives. We are committed to helping expand awareness, support access, and assist our professionals in transforming their experiences into academic achievements,” she said.
University President Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. emphasized the program’s alignment with his SUCCEED agenda and its contribution to national goals to broaden educational access, especially with the ETEEAP Act now institutionalized.
“This ETEEAP Caravan is the first one indicating earmarked access that is scarce, education of uniform quality, and the workforce that is adaptive and dynamic”, Dr. Manzano said.
Prof. Luvee Hazel Aquino, Director for Curriculum Development and Innovative Learning, provided an overview of ETEEAP, emphasizing its role in converting professional experience into academic credits. She further stated that it is meant for qualified individuals who are now ready to transpose their professional experience to academic credit.
Also present during the caravan are MMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal, University Registrar Henedine Aguinaldo, MMSU ETEEAP Chief Dr. Robert Salvador, and internal assessors for each degree program.
The ETEEAP is a comprehensive educational program institutionalized through Republic Act No. 12124, also known as the ETEEAP Act of 2025. This law strengthens the government’s commitment to inclusive, accessible, and lifelong learning by providing alternative pathways for Filipino professionals and skilled workers to earn college degrees based on their prior education and work experience.
