The College of Teacher Education (CTE) Rabbis finally ended the College of Engineering (COE) Maroons’ ten-year reign at the MMSU University Games 2025, held from November 12 to 15. The Rabbis emerged as overall champions in both cultural and sports competitions, securing a decisive lead through consistent podium finishes across team and individual events.
With the theme "Top Seed to Succeed,” this year’s UniGames gathered participants from the university’s various colleges and campuses, featuring a total of 42 sports and 31 cultural competitions.
In the sports competition, the CTE Rabbis claimed the championship title, followed by the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) Eagles in second place. The College of Industrial Technology (CIT) Red Lions secured third, while the COE Maroons and the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) Tamaraws completed the top five.
Meanwhile, in the cultural competitions, the CTE Rabbis retained their title with 185 points, followed closely by the College of Arts and Sciences–College of Dentistry (CAS-COD) Wizards with 182 points. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) Knights placed third with 99 points, while COE Maroons earned 93 points. CBEA Eagles rounded out the standings with 83 points.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius Manzano, Jr. congratulated all winners, noting that the close of the games marks a moment for the students to “bring down their guards as competitors and bring out their A-game in the regionals later on.” He also highlighted the university’s broader aspirations, saying, “Our vision is to be feasible at the international level, and we will provide all needed support for those who will be able to elevate themselves to that level.”
Hon. Edriane Gerby Maloom, Executive Chairperson of the MMSU University Student Council, noted the significance of the event, saying, “The theme encapsulated our collective drive to lead. We witnessed champions emerging not only in the sports arena but also in culture and arts.”
Prof. Floresto A. Franco, Jr., Chief of Sports Development, reminded students that the UniGames experience is an opportunity for growth. “Remember that every effort you put in, every challenge you faced, and every game you played adds to your growth and journey as athletes and artists,” he said.
The CTE Rabbis’ breakthrough victory marks a new chapter in UniGames history. Kylle Harvey Calaustro, CTE Student Council President, expressed pride in the historic double victory: “The efforts of CTE really ignited one another because we are one to achieve a definite goal,” he said, noting the unity and determination that drove the college to top the standings in both events for the first time.
With momentum from their historic wins, the CTE Rabbis, along with other winners, now set their sights on the upcoming 2026 SCUAA-1 and PASUC-1, aiming to carry their winning spirit beyond the university and showcase their excellence on a bigger stage.
