Research is an integral component and function of the University. It is one of the main concerns under the office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation (OVPRDI). The University Research Program is coordinated by the Research Directorate which seat of administration is at the Crops Research Laboratory compound, Batac campus.

The Extension Directorate aims to serve the general public through non-formal education and promotional activities to disseminate knowledge-based technical information and to transfer appropriate technologies. It is through extension that the University shares to the general public its intellectual resources of ideas, information, research results generated, and technologies developed.

The Innovation and Technology Directorate serves as the university's central unit for fostering a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven development. It oversees four specialized units that work collaboratively to translate research outputs into market-ready products, protect intellectual property, and support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

These units are:

  1. Technology Business Incubation (TBI) Unit – focuses on transforming technologies into viable enterprises through incubation and support services;
  2. University Innovation Technology Support Office (UITSO) – safeguards university-generated technologies by facilitating intellectual property protection;
  3. Food Innovation Center (FIC) – develops innovative food products and processes for commercialization; and
  4. Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) – provides access to shared service facilities for prototyping and small-scale production to support MSMEs and the academic community.

In addition to these, the Directorate leads initiatives on Technology Transfer and Commercialization, ensuring that innovations reach their intended beneficiaries and contribute to socioeconomic development.
