USC launches business incubation program

The University Student Council (USC) has launched a business incubation program for MMSU student leaders to unleash their potentials in entrepreneurial activities.

Dubbed Project Stallions’ Economic Enterprise Development (ProSEED), the program aims to teach student leaders on the basics of entrepreneurship and to help them develop their organizations’ business proposals and startup pitches.

USC Chairperson Philip Joshua Aliga said the ProSEED is open to all college student councils, academic organizations, and interest clubs in the University. He explained that participants will undergo a virtual mentoring session, business planning, and startup pitch preparation and presentation.

The webinar on business planning and startup pitch was held on April 26. Here, participants were also oriented with the financial, advisory, administrative, referral, and networking aspects of entrepreneurship.

Resource speakers in the online activity were professors Armie C. Sabugo and Mishael Joy S. Barrera from the College of Business, Economics and Accountancy (CBEA), and Engr. Lemuel Joshua P. Bagayas, an MMSU employee and business owner.

Now, the participating student organizations are currently creating their business plans. The five best business proposals will be given the chance to create and present their startup pitches.

Cash prizes await the winners in the said program: Php 10,000 each for top 1 and 2; and Php 2,000 each for top three to five. The amounts will serve as seed money for their organization’s business ventures.

Winners will be announced through a closing an awarding ceremony on May 10. – Daniel P. Tapaoan, Jr. (StratCom)
