To expand its sports programs and initiatives, MMSU formalized its partnership with Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) in Indonesia by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today, October 2, at FEM hall.

The MoU was signed by MMSU OIC President Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, represented by Vice President for Planning and Strategic Foresight Dr. Virgilio Julius Manzano Jr., MMSU Department of Physical Education (PE) Chair Prof. Joselito Custodio, PE Faculty Member Prof.  Procorpio Dafun III and UNESA Department of Physical Education head Dr. Mochamad Ridwan. UNESA staff Mr. Aby Nugrah Septanto, Director for Internalization, Linkages, and Partnerships Dr. Mee Jay Domingo, CAS Dean Dr. Marlina Lino, other faculty members, and university staff witnessed the signing ceremony.

In the five-year agreement, MMSU and UNESA will focus on various initiatives, including joint courses, credit-transfer programs, and collaborative research discussions on physical education. The partnership also includes exchange programs for students and faculty members.

Prior to the signing ceremony, Dr. Manzano expressed interest in the partnership during the courtesy call, stating, “This collaboration will lead to more productive teams competing in various sports activities, not only in the region but worldwide.” He further emphasized that teaming up with an Indonesian counterpart aims to elevate the standards of sports education and create more opportunities for student-athletes.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ridwan expressed gratitude to MMSU, highlighting the academic benefits of the collaboration for both institutions.

The partnership aligns with MMSU’s commitment to fostering student and faculty development while enhancing its role as a frontline of sports in the country. UNESA will conduct a virtual lecture on physical education in the coming week.
