MMSU produces new mechanical engineers
Nineteen out of the 28 examinees from MMSU passed the Licensure Examination for Mechanical Engineers conducted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in September.
The university garnered a 67.86 percent passing rate as against the 55.25 percent national average. Of the 3,866 who took the test, 2,136 made it.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, because mechanical engineers research, design, develop, build, and test mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, engines, and machines.
Typically, they design power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines as well as power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems; machines inside buildings, such as elevators and escalators; and material-handling systems, such as conveyor systems and automated transfer stations.
They can work on all stages of machinery from research and development to its design and manufacture until installation and final commissioning. Most industries rely on mechanical systems, thus, mechanical engineering is thought to be one of the most diverse of all engineering disciplines. (By Reynaldo E. Andres)
