MMSU Stallion one step closer to SEA Games

By Crisdeniele H. Clemente

Leanne Kate C. Corpuz, a third-year BS Computer Technology student of Mariano Marcos State University, may be the first MMSU Stallion to represent the Philippines in an international competition, this after she qualified to train for the national futsal team.

From the twenty-eight women who will undergo training this month, fourteen players will be drawn for the Philippine Futsal team. They will compete in the International 2025 Southeast Asian Games to be held in Thailand.

Corpuz expressed her gratefulness for the opportunity to be trained. "I still can't process my thoughts, this is such a dream come true, the lady athlete remarked after she and her coach, Dr. Robert Salvador, paid a courtesy call to MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis at the FEM Hall. Dr. Agrupis, who had previously challenged MMSU athletes to shine not only in SCUAA-1 but also in the international arena, expressed her full support to the rising futsal star.

Aside from being an MMSU varsity player, Corpuz is also part of the Pangasinan United Football Club (PUFC). Her team participated in the High Five Women's Futsal League program this year. During the SCUAA-1 held in Pangasinan in January, she exhibited prowess in the futsal event which led to her discovery by PUFC. (HLY/JVBT/DPT, StratCom)
