by Abril Ryan A. Dacanay, STRATCOM Correspondent
Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is among the distinguished participants in the CommTECH Camp Highlight 2025, an international program organized by the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in East Java, Indonesia.
The camp gathers students, academics, and professionals from across the globe to deepen understanding of technology implementation in society while also showcasing Indonesia’s rich heritage and culture. This year’s program is divided into two streams: Innovations in Engineering (July 21–August 1) and Creativepreneurship (August 28–September 8 ).
Representing MMSU in Stream 1 was Engr. Lawrence John Tagata, Director for Student Affairs and Services and faculty member of the College of Engineering. His participation marks the university’s commitment to being at the forefront of technological advancements, while gaining global perspectives and strengthening networks that can benefit both the engineering field and local communities.
Currently joining Stream 2 are Prof. Quincy Savellano, Chief for Mobility, and Mr. John Paul Pahinag, a BS Tourism and Hospitality Management student. The Creativepreneurship track offers immersive, project-based training for students and academic personnel interested in entrepreneurship development. Participants explore innovative strategies used by Indonesian entrepreneurs in collaboration with ITS.
Both streams feature a blend of academic and cultural immersion, including specialized courses, discussions with government and non-government agencies, community engagement, Indonesian language lessons, traditional music and dance workshops, and visits to key tourist destinations.
Through these activities, MMSU participants continue to expand their knowledge and skills while contributing to meaningful exchanges with peers worldwide working toward shared goals for community and global development.
