TO RECOGNIZE important individuals behind the creation of the “MMSU Hymn” and the “MMSU March”, the university prepared a special program dubbed, “Ruknoy iti Laing ni Ilokano” held April 28 at the University Main Library.

Attended by the late composers’ and musical scorers’ family members as well as the administrative council members, the program also launched the “Student Profiler” developed by engineer Ben Ezra Apollo of the College of Engineering. Highlight of the affair was the marking of the first 365 days of Dr. Miriam E. Pascua as sixth president of MMSU.

Before the unveiling of two huge frames containing lyrics of the famed MMSU songs, a community singing was led by University Library System Director Lucena R. Felipe.

The late Dr. Lelia M. Saguiguit, professor VI and director of the Office of Student Services and Development, wrote the lyrics of the university’s hymn while the late Mr. Crisologo F. Albano, supply officer of the then Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology, provided music to the song.

On the other hand, the late Mr. Jeremias A. Calixto, professor of then MMSU’s Unit I, now the College of Teacher Education, composed the university march while the late Mr. Anselmo Pelayre did the musical scoring.

In response, family members of the honorees thanked the university for recognizing the “humble” contribution of their kins to MMSU’s history. They said that for as long as these are sung and played in important university occasions, these important men and women will be forever remembered by the MMSU community.

The two huge frames containing lyrics of the two university songs are hung at the main library’s lobby.
