Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) marks its 47th Foundation Anniversary, celebrating nearly five decades of excellence in education, research, transformative extension programs, generative resources, and community engagement. The university’s milestone is commemorated with a series of events under the theme, “Cultivating Minds, Transforming Futures,” showcasing its commitment to shaping the future and advancing the community.
The celebration commenced today, January 6, with "Diana Around the Town," a symbolic activity heralding the start of the month-long festivities. The day continued with a thanksgiving mass held at Teatro Ilocandia and the opening of a trade fair and garden show at the MMSU Innotech Grounds (S&T Park). It was attended by MMSU officials and members of the Board of Regents, including former MMSU president and current CHED Commissioner Dr. Shirley Agrupis, Batac City officials headed by Mayor Albert Chua, faculty, staff, and students of the university community.
The trade fair and garden show features horticultural exhibitions, research-based technologies developed by MMSU researchers, and products from private exhibitors in the province and neighboring provinces were showcased. These products were categorized into furniture and handicrafts, food and refreshments, dry goods, plants, and technology-based products.
In her message, MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R. Franco emphasized the university's mission to empower the university community and its stakeholders throughout the years. “The 47th year of MMSU reflects our commitment and dedication to shaping minds and transforming lives," she stated, encouraging everyone to chart a progressive future through academic, research, and innovative contributions.
MMSU Vice President for Planning and Strategic Foresight Virgilio Julius Manzano Jr. lauded the university’s continuous efforts to nurture the community for a better future. “What we achieve this time is the fruit of collective effort,” Vice President for Administration, Finance and Business Oscar Agpaoa added, highlighting the importance of collaboration in the university's success.
The month-long celebration includes various activities such as Topnotchers’ Day, research forums, cultural presentations, film festival, and recognition ceremonies for outstanding faculty, staff, and alumni. The university will also host a film festival and a research exhibit to showcase the university’s innovative projects.
A major highlight of the celebration will be the highly anticipated State of the University Address, where the MMSU OIC-President will report on the university’s achievements and accomplishments in the previous year.
The anniversary festivities will culminate in a fellowship night, bringing together the MMSU community, especially retirees, to celebrate their shared achievements and aspirations for the future.
Founded in 1978, MMSU has grown into a premier institution in Northern Luzon, offering quality education, cutting-edge research, and meaningful extension programs. As it marks its 47th year, MMSU continues to uphold its mission of transforming lives through education, innovation, and service to the community.
