Mr. John Vincent B. Toribio, faculty member at the MMSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), was recognized as a high performing alumnus of the Professional Development for Teacher Trainers under the American English (AE) E-Teacher Program for the Spring 2020 Term.

This was confirmed by Connie Chico, US Embassy’s Cultural Affairs Specialist of the English Language Programs, who sent an email to Toribio last July 30. The latter took the course from April 7 to June 2, 2020.

“I was actually surprised when I heard the news. As my outputs and efforts have been recognized, I am more excited to cascade all my learning here in the University,” he beamed.

According to Chico, his instructors commended Toribio who “turned in excellent work consistently and was consistently able to elaborate on his previous experiences and incorporate previous and new knowledge in his assignment tasks.”

“He also demonstrated very respectful communication with instructors and other participants,” she added.

Under the program, course instructors may delegate up to two high performing alumni for each section per term.

High performing alumni of the AE E-Teacher program may have opportunities for further participation with the program by becoming facilitators for massive open online courses (MOOCs).

The online course was offered by the Arizona State University in United States and administered by an international non-profit organization called FHI 360.

It is among the online English programs sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State.

Toribio is also the chief for information services in the MMSU Office for Strategic Communication. (StratCom)
