Exploring potential research partnerships, particularly in genomics, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) visited Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) on March 12.
Headed by Science Research Specialists Ms. Melinda Bacual and Ms. Maureen Basa Gajeton, the visiting delegation was composed of researchers and staff from PCC’s Molecular Genetics Laboratory of the Animal Breeding and Genomics Section.
Supporting PCC’s genomic research initiatives, discussions focused on the possible utilization of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Medical Research (CMED)’s PacBio Sequel II sequencing platform.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. said that this partnership in genomic research “opens opportunities for scientific innovation and strengthens our capacity to generate data-driven solutions that can support livestock improvement and agricultural development in the country.”
Meanwhile, CMED Chief Peter James Icalia-Gann underscored the significance of the partnership, noting that collaboration between the two institutions can advance genomic studies and broaden research capacity.
“This collaboration emphasizes the power of long-read sequencing in accelerating genomic discovery and expanding our capacity to understand genetic variations that can enhance multifaceted areas from health to breeding and livestock,” Dr. Icalia-Gann said.
