2 MMSU grads cited as CHED natatanging mag-aaral

By Daniel P. Tapaoan, Jr.

Two alumni of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) were chosen as regional awardees for this year’s Gawad Parangal Para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Mr. Ryan Roi B. Domingo, a 2018 BA English Language graduate, and Mr. Mark Lourence C. Martinez, a 2019 BA Communication graduate, were among the 10 recipients of said award.

The award is given to alumni who were recipients of any CHED scholarship program, and whose stories of success crystallize the significant role of free higher education (FHE) in the country. The former was a beneficiary of the FHE, while the latter was an ES-GPPA scholar.

The two were nominated by the University’s Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), together with nine other alumni who graduated from 2018 to 2019.

Then, CHED rigorously selected the awardees based on their academic and non-academic awards during the duration of their grants, their compelling stories about their college journey, and the impact of the scholarship grants to them.

Domingo, who graduated magna cum laude, was an academic achiever, a student leader, and an editor of student publication. He is now a faculty of the MMSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the chief of university’s digital media services.

Also, Martinez was a student leader and a contender of radio drama competition in the regional culture and the arts festival. He now serves as a reporter of DZJC Aksyon Radyo in Laoag City.

The two CAS graduates will receive their awards during the celebration of the first National Higher Education Day (NHED) to be held at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University on May 18.

The Gawad Parangal is in line with the 1st National Higher Education Day celebration on May 18 to commemorate the founding anniversary of CHED. (StratCom)
