THE FOOD Service Division will no longer have to buy water in bottles and in gallons from outside dealers.
The Business Directorate under Dr. Oscar M. Agpaoa thought that the captive market of almost 7,000 faculty members, staff, and students at the main campus is an observed certainty for a profitable venture.
According to him, the proposal to put up a water station has been conceived a few years back but it is only lately that water samples from selected sources in Batac campus were brought for testing to the Department of Science and Technology regional office in relation with other university projects on food product development. Result of the test revealed that water from the main campus fits well to the standards required by regulatory agencies for domestic and commercial purposes.
A portion of the Food Service Building has been proposed to house the water station although a more appropriate location is being looked into. Cost of building renovation and repair is estimated at P80,000 while equipment and accessories will cost around P250,000. Estimated useful life of these equipment, according to manufacturers, is 10 years. Food Service and Marketing Center vehicles will be temporarily used as delivery equipment.
Initial investment and working capital including licensing amounting to P400,000 shall be sourced from Fund 161 (Income-generating Projects). Putting it simply, Dr. Agpaoa using said that for an initial investment of P1, the return is P1.95.
