COLLEGE OF AQUATIC SCENCES AND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY – Two students from The Netherlands are here to conduct a study about Paoay Lake as part of their work placement assignment or on-the-job training which started Aug. 20.
Philee Steendam and Bastiaan Vermonden, fourth year applied science students of Hogeschool Zeeland in The Netherlands, will be in the college until Dec. 20 this year to look into the nutrient levels of the lake, map its water inflow and outflow, determine the amount of nutrients entering and leaving it, and find out if its current trophic level would change if current conditions persist.
The college serves as work placement provider as requested by the head of the aquatic ecotechnologie of Hogeschool Zeeland. Dr. Julita R. Ungson, CASAT dean, has been appointed company mentor supervisor while Dr. Michiel Michels has been named work placement lecturer.
The findings of the two foreign students’ study will be used as benchmark information by policymakers, particularly the Protected Area Management Board of the Paoay Lake Development Authority, as basis in the development and management of the area.
