FACULTY members and students of the College of Health Sciences’ department of nursing welcomed July 31 at the University Training Center two nursing professors of the Kap’iolani Community College (KCC) of the University of Hawaii (UH).
Professors Teresita L. Basuel and May Kealoha were here to share their college’s ladder-type nursing curriculum and evaluation tools for students’ performance in the classroom and in the clinical area; review the department’s documents for curriculum improvement; visit the different affiliating agencies of the department of nursing such as the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center and the Bangui District Hospital; and speak about preparations for and nature of the National Council Licensure Examination, a test one has to pass to become a registered nurse in the United States.
The visit of the UH professors is a way of strengthening the collaboration between MMSU and the said university towards nursing excellence and development. It can be recalled that Dr. Manolita Crisostomo, together with Ilocos Norte Provincial Legal Counsel Jaime Agtang, went to Hawaii earlier to sign a memorandum of agreement with UH officials to strengthen partnerships between the two universities.
Kealoha is KCC’s department chair while Basuel, who went to Hawaii from Sinait, Ilocos Sur when she was four years old, is an assistant professor. Their travel was sponsored by the provincial government headed by Governor Ferdinand R. Marcos. MMSU, on the other hand, took care of them while at the university.
