FIFTY-ONE faculty and staff are currently pursuing their respective master’s and doctor’s degrees in leading universities in the country. This is made possible through the University Manpower Development Program (UMDP) which was revived and intensified under the administration of President Miriam E. Pascua.
According to UMDP Director Ninfa S. Asia, most of the scholars – 14 of them – come from CAS while nine come from CIT. The following colleges have five scholars each: CAF, CHS, and COE. The R&D Unit and the CTE also have four personnel each on study privileges while the Administration group has three. Moreover, CASAT and CBEA have one faculty member each enjoying the same privilege.
Of the 51 scholars, 17 are freeship grantees; 11, full scholars; and 6, partial scholars. The others are on scholarship/fellowship under the following institutions: CHED, 11; SEARCA, 2; DOST-PCARRD, 1; DOST-PCASTRD, 1; DOST-SEI, 1, and Fullbright, 1.
The scholars are enrolled at Ateneo de Manila University, Centro Escolar University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Technological University f the Philippines, UP-Diliman, UP-Los Baños, UP-Open University, and University of Santo Tomas. One scholar is at the University of Georgia in the US while almost half are enrolled at the MMSU Graduate School.
The number of faculty and staff going out for advance studies has grown big in the last two years as Dr. Miriam E. Pascua vowed upon her assumption to the MMSU presidency to raise the competency of personnel which she considers as the most important resources in the university.
Meanwhile, eight faculty scholars graduated from their respective degrees in Summer 2007. They are: Josephine P. Ceria – MA Nursing, MMSU-GS; William G. Bermudez and James M. Vicente – MAEd Technician Education, MMSU-GS; Samuel P. Rahon – MS Civil Engineering, UP-Diliman; Leah I. Ballesteros – PhD Development Management, DWCL; Eriberto M. Calamayan – MS Engineering, Mapua Institute of Technology; Karina L. Damo – MS Chemistry, ADMU; and Rhoda T. Garcia – MS Chemistry, ADMU.
