THE UNIVERSITY, through the Student Services and Development Office (SSDO), released P129, 270 as aid to the families of students who died on separate incidents in June and July.
Prof. Henedine A. Aguinaldo, SSDO director, reported the death due to a vehicular accident last June 9 of siblings Winston and Vincent Louie L. Cagat of CAF. Winston was an incoming irregular second year agriculture student while Vincent Louie was an incoming first year forestry student. Michael R. Domingo, on the other hand, died due to leukemia, May 25. He was an incoming second year industrial technology student at the time of his death.
According to Aguinaldo, students, except graduates, who die during summer or semester break are entitled to receive a death aid provided they were enrolled in the semester immediately preceding their date of death as in the case of the three students.
Each student pays a mutual aid of P25 every semester from which the death aid is drawn.
The parent-beneficiaries of the Cagat brothers from Cagayan received P88, 220 – P41, 050 of which represented students’ contribution in the second semester of SY 2006-2007, the semester Winston was last enrolled. The remaining amount of P47, 170 was drawn from first semester SY 2007-2008 enrollment, the time Vincent Louie was last registered.
Domingo’s beneficiaries, on the other hand, were given P41, 050 in death aid. The student died in summer but was enrolled second semester of SY2006-2007 which made him qualify for the aid.
