Stallions shine in national MathSciAKa contest

High school students and elementary pupils from the MMSU won in the prestigious national Mathematics, Science at Kapaligiran (MathSciAKa) competition held at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) office in Diliman, Quezon City last September 21.

 

The contest was one of the events of the National Science Club Month (NSCM) conducted by the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) in the month of September.

 

The team of Jed Mizar Manzano and Abrahm Lei Domingo from the Laboratory High School (LHS) Batac campus emerged as champion in the Take Home Workshop (Bracket II), with teacher Jayferson G. Panilo as the coach.

 

Likewise, the group of Maximus R. de los Reyes, Jewelly Nereigne P. Dutdut, and Jammilah Zia I. Yapo from the Laboratory Elementary School (LES) Batac campus prevailed as champion in the Interactive Workshop (Bracket I). Teachers John Lorenz O. Adriatico and May Flor C. Rivera were the coaches of the pupils.

 

Meanwhile, the group of Adrian Joash Pamani and Aubrey Marie Dejolde, and the group of Zoe Hendrix Reynera, Crystal Kate Blanco and Ma. Micah Isabel Balisi from the LHS Laoag campus both landed second runners-up in the Take Home Challenge (Bracket II) and Mystery Challenge (Bracket II), respectively. Teacher Trichelita L. Pagtaconan was the coach of the two groups.

 

The team of Amon Ra Rahob and Angela Jesshiele Galano from LES Laoag campus also finished first runner-up in the Mystery Workshop (Bracket I) contest, while Aliah Concepcion and Macy Queen Reyes prevailed 2nd runner-up in the Workshop Fair (Bracket I) contest. Coaches of these pupils were teachers Romelyn Lagura and Rica Jane Natividad.

 

In the overall workshops, the LES Laoag campus and LHS Batac campus finished second runners-up under Bracket I and II, respectively.

 

"All glory to God," the coaches exclaimed while they thanked the parents, other teachers of the LES and LHS, and the university administration for showing support to the MMSU contingents as they join in the competitions.

 

As the umbrella organization of all science clubs in the country, PSYSC is conducting this annual activity to emphasize the students' roles and their active participation in the issues concerning science and technology today, and to realize the importance of science clubbing in the schools and society.

 

Themed "METABOLIZE: Nourishing the Filipino Youth Towards National Well-Being," this year's NSCM aimed to "investigate the impact of the food we eat on our growth and development, an effort to promote good nutrition to all Filipinos".

 

Partners of the PSYSC in implementing the NSCM 2019 were the PCI Tech Center, Department of Science and Technology, Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc., Unilab Foundation, STEM+PH, Felta MultiMedia, Inc., Orange Segment Print and Design Studio, SparkUp, and Knowledge Channel.
