<P><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=5><STRONG>Outstanding personnel cited</STRONG></FONT></P>
EIGHT individual personnel and one group of employees were recognized Jan. 9 at the Teatro Ilocandia as the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Committee chaired by Vice President Stanley C. Malab, proclaimed recipients of the 2006 Outstanding Achievers Awards.
The giving of awards was one of the highlights of the university’s celebration of its 29th foundation anniversary which ran with the theme “Academic supremacy for global recognition”.
Outstanding teacher
Dr. Estrella R. Calixto was chosen Outstanding Teacher for 2006 for her exemplary accomplishment and contribution as professor at the College of Teacher Education and Graduate School. She spearheaded the institutionalization of Student Teaching Research in the university and works beyond the call of duty.
Outstanding faculty researcher
Zaldy A. Fernandez of the College of Industrial Technology received the Outstanding Faculty Researcher award for his distinguished achievements as instructor, innovator, and researcher; for his dedication as researcher which serves as inspiration to other research workers and to young students; and for distinguishing himself as developer of the 4-in-1 Smoked Fish Processor that has won various awards in regional and national fora.
Outstanding full-time researcher
Noralyn B. Legaspi received the Outstanding Full-time Researcher award for distinguishing herself in the conduct of exemplary researches in root crops (i.e.,tugui, ubi, and white potato) and vegetable commodities which have brought national recognition for the university.
Outstanding faculty extension worker
The Outstanding Faculty Extension Worker award went to Prof. Beatriz S. Malab of the College of Agriculture and Forestry for her dedication as professor and expert lecturer in the fields of soil science and gender and development which makes her well-sought by various government and non-government institutions in the country.
Outstanding full-time extension worker
Bella C. Gervacio of the Extension Directorate bagged Outstanding Full-time Extension Worker award for her dedication as training specialist and for distinguishing herself in the conduct of exemplary extension work and as coach of the MMSU Student in Free Enterprise Team that won national championship and represented the Philippines to the World Cup in Paris, France.
Outstanding support staff for extension and research services
Fausta Mercy R. Gaño of the Extension Directorate bagged the Outstanding Support Staff for Extension and Research Services for her distinguished achievements as communication specialist which provide strong support to the research and extension services of the university; and for her dedication as writer in various local and national publications which brings wider dissemination of the programs and services of the university.
Outstanding support staff for general administration
Daisy Tungpalan of the Accounting Unit received the Outstanding Support Staff for General Administration award in recognition of her contribution as Accountant II providing services for the effective management of funds for the university’s eight colleges and various programs and projects under Funds 101, 161, 164, 184, and the RLE review fund. She is a silent, honest, and efficient worker and works beyond the call of duty.
‘Takuat’ awardee
His serving as major adviser and consultant for the design and development of the Smart Switch for General Switching of Small Loads which won first place during the First Electrical Engineering Research Design Contest held at the PICC in Manila has won for engineer Thomas D. Ubina the 2005 “Takuat” (Discovery) award. He improved the design and developed the Smart/Intelligent House MMSU Technology.
‘Timpuyog’ awardee
The College of Industrial Technology’s Extension Service Group grabbed the 2006 “Timpuyog” (Unity) award for the team’s strong partnership, wholehearted commitment, and cohesion, unity, and cooperation that contributed to the effective implementation of the college’s extension projects which are very vital to the successful implementation of the university’s thrusts and programs and establishment of strong linkages with non-government organizations and local government units.
Except for the “Takuat” and “Timpuyog” awardees who each received Php5,000, the seven other outstanding employees pocketed Php10,000 each. All of them, likewise, received plaque made from only the finest bamboo frames from MMSU.
Meanwhile, 109 employees who have reached 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years of service to MMSU were, likewise, recognized during the occasion.
