MMSU President is sole Southeast Asian HEI head, shares views with Eurasia academic leaders

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis  (PSCA) was chosen as a featured speaker at the 9th Annual Eurasia Higher Education Summit (EURIE 2024) on February 28.

Joining six university presidents from the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Germany, and Brazil, PSCA is the sole Southeast Asian HEI head during the University President’s Panel. The featured speakers discussed the current challenges and internationalization initiatives in higher education.

When asked what excites her when thinking about higher education, PSCA highlighted the importance of “coming to the same platform and developing a seamless education”.

She also emphasized how higher education institutions (HEIs) like MMSU have developed virtuous human capital for its community. “Through research, faculty and students will converse to have sustainable innovation”, she added.

As we embrace digitalization, she also focused on using digital technologies as a tool to address current issues and challenges in higher education. “It excites me how digital transformation can reflect into human values”, she said.

Furthermore, PSCA raised an important question on how digitalization makes students think critically. Anchored with the MMSU CARES Framework for Global Citizenship, MMSU makes sure that students are exposed to various perspectives and be aware of global issues.

Part of her speech is also her own viewpoint towards an emerging global educational paradigm "Without the proper balance of relevance and quality, education may destroy or build the future," she stressed.

As Philippine HEIs continue to create initiatives towards internationalization, MMSU, together with other HEIs, look beyond institutional, disciplinal and national boundaries. By using the power of education, HEIs will create more opportunities for growth and development.
