THE UNIVERSITY received the “Kabalikat” Award, academe collaborator category,  from the Philippine the Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD) in ceremonies held at the Palawan Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City, March 15.  The affair coincided with PCIERD’s 25th anniversary.

The university was recognized for its invaluable support and contribution to science and technology (S&T) in the country by undertaking research and development and ably leading the Ilocos Consortium for R&D in Industry and Energy as the extension arm of PCIERD in the region to promote awareness on the use of S&T for productivity and competitiveness.

MMSU was one of three recipients of the award which included The Manila Bulletin for the  media category, and Mega Sardines from the private business group.  MMSU bested other academic institutions for the recognition which is equivalent to the “Tanglaw” Award given by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources Research and Development.

According to engineer Samuel Franco, PCIERD did not ask for nominations.  The institution just required the university to submit documents pertaining to the university’s research and extension projects related to industry and energy.

The award, he said, does not involve any cash incentive but will be in the form of assistance to university’s projects such as the kawayan program and the commercialization of the heat pump dryer.
