Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), through its Extension Directorate, launched the Extension Workers' Technology Update Series titled Retooling for Enhanced Promotion of MMSU-Generated Agricultural Technologies in observance of the first Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Month this October, as mandated by Proclamation No. 753, s. 2024.
Celebrated under the theme “One Goal, One Extension: Advancing Agriculture and Fisheries for a Food Secure Nation,” the initiative aims to equip extension staff with the latest advancements in agricultural technologies to better serve the community.
The series commenced on October 15 and will continue until November 12, with sessions held at the ILAARRDEC-OSIS. Fifteen extension personnel from the Technology Promotion and Demonstration Services (TPDS) section are participating in the training, which features eight comprehensive sessions led by experts from MMSU’s Research and Extension Directorates as well as the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD).
Discussed in the first and second sessions were effective communication and facilitation skills for technology demonstration workers and off-season tomato production technology, respectively. The succeeding sessions will cover bamboo propagation and processing, enhanced corn production techniques, early diagnosis of plant pests and nutrient deficiencies, mushroom cultivation under shade for supplementary income, and crop diversification and urban gardening. The training will culminate with integration and demo farm planning.
Through this training series, MMSU emphasizes its continued pledge to turn innovative agricultural knowledge into practical solutions that advance food security and rural development.
