PATRICK Sardornas (BS Accountancy IV), Marian Lorenzo (ABES IV), Janill Magano (BS Biology III), and Lace Ouano (BSN III) won their match up with the Saint Louis College (SLC) during the Regional Debate Competition sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education and the College English Teachers Association, Nov. 24.  Sadornas also bagged the Best Speaker and the Best Debater titles.

MMSU Team’s match up with SLC centered on the proposition that:  “Charter change be adopted in the Philippines through Constituent Assembly”.

Sadornas’ group gave a counter-proposal to the proposition:  “That Charter change be adopted in the Philippines not by constituent assembly but by constitutional convention”.

According to Jasmine Adriano, team coach, the two teams’ match up was the “best” among the nine match ups.  “The two teams were, in a way, on equal footing in terms of the art of debate.  However, what gave our team an edge were the members’ intelligent questions and very witty answers to the opponents’ cross examination,” she said.  She added that the rebuttal summation delivered by Sadornas was also very effective that the audience “had nothing to do but to accept that our counter-proposal was better than the opponents’”.
