MMSU- COL team advances to quarterfinals in nat’l law debate cup

MMSU Juris Doctor students from the College of Law will advance to the quarterfinals of the Cordillera Law Debate Cup 2025 in Baguio City on July 26, after winning the breaking rounds held virtually on July 13.


Organized by the Saint Louis University Debate and Mooting Society, the team of Niña Christelle Sumintac, Johanna May Mata, and Franchesca Rapada was the second-breaking team with three consecutive wins,

 while the team composed of Princess Camille Ann Lazaga, Rhea Angeline Mangoba, and Rex Antonius Morales ranked fourth. The team of Dana Meryll Gapas, Santher Dale Caliw-caliw, and Jan Mariah Dimaya, which ranked ninth, is also first in the reserved breaks.


During the breaking rounds, Morales was recognized as the Overall Best Speaker, with his teammates Lazaga in sixth place and Mangoba in tenth place. 


Adjudicators from the university also entered the break rounds with Mark Charlie Catunggal in fifth place, who also served as the chief adjudicator of two rounds. Other places include Ma. Angelica Ranada as the eighth Best Judge and Ninotchka Andres as the tenth Best Judge. Roman Nalupta also participated in the rounds as an adjudicator.


Serving as the coaches of the debate teams from the university were Atty. Vwxyz Dascil and Atty. Eric Karl Nicholas Aguilar, with the support of Atty. Brian Jay Corpuz, the college dean.


The MMSU law students competed against 22 teams from various law schools in the Philippines, including Arellano University School of Law, Ateneo de Manila, Bulacan State University, De La Salle University–Dasmariñas, Philippine Law School, Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Law, Rizal Memorial Colleges of Davao, Saint Louis University, Saint Mary’s University, Tarlac State University School of Law, University of Makati School of Law, University of Perpetual Help DALTA College of Law, and the University of Cordilleras.
