By Niña Christelle Sumintac, STRATCOM Correspondent
The Mariano Marcos State University College of Law (MMSU COL), through its Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP Level I), partnered with the Local Government Unit of Cabugao to conduct a seminar titled “Justice for the Vulnerable: Tackling Cybercrime and Violence Against Women and Children” on August 22 at the Cabugao Legislative Building, Ilocos Sur.
Designed and facilitated by CLEP 1 law students, the seminar aimed to strengthen public awareness of fundamental legal rights and responsibilities while developing collaboration with supervising lawyers. Participants included barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials, as well as municipal employees.
The sessions covered four key topics: the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262) and the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), discussed by Dennise Aira Omli and her panel under the guidance of Atty. Kent Alvin Guzman; the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175), led by Tiana May Villaluz and Marc Russel Morales with their panel, supervised by Atty. Jonathan Florentino; a lecture on Small Claims by Princess Ann Jerez; and a discussion on the Katarungang Pambarangay Law facilitated by Von Keizer Bulan and Raven Jade Palacay, likewise supervised by Atty. Florentino.
Also assisting the law students in project development were Atty. Rosario Vitamug-Palisoc, head of PAO Cabugao, and Cabugao Mayor Josh Edward Cobangbang.
Through this initiative, MMSU COL’s CLEP, under the supervision of Atty. Saniata Marcos-Taclan and with the support of Cabugao LGU expressed its commitment to protecting women, children, and citizens in cyberspace through active community engagement.
