TO PROVIDE more laboratory classes for early childhood education (ECE) majors and concentrators for their observations, participation, research, and practice teaching activities, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) will open nursery and kindergarten classes at the university’s Batac campus starting June this year.

The opening of these preschool classes is a significant step by the CTE to attain their goals and objectives as center of excellence in teacher education and as a level III-accredited teacher training institution. With the preschool classes, the college will provide more quality preand in-service training and continuing education for students and practitioners in the field of ECE. In addition, the college will also be able to extend more of its services to the community in providing the preschool child’ s initial adjustment assistance and adequate preparation for the grade school.

Based on the initial survey conducted by the college to determine prospective enrol lment , 33 parents expressed their interest to enroll their children in the kindergarten class and 21 in the nursery class.

A team from the CTE composed of the dean, the elementary education department chair , the laboratory elementary school (LES) principal, and the ECE program adviser will administer and supervise the classes. The classes, however, will be integrated into the operation of the LES.

The old LHS library previously occupied by CASAT students who had classes in Batac will be temporarily used as preschool classroom. According to Physical Plant and General Services Division Director Romeo R . Duldulao, preparations have been going on in the area in time for the opening of classes on June 13. The old marketing center, also located at the LHS premises, will serve as permanent class room as soon as this will be renovated and furnished according to preschool classroom standards.

A development fee of P4,000 will be collected from each pupil. This shall be used to purchase equipment and improve/repair existing classroom facilities and to develop staff through seminars and trainings. Said fees shall be managed by the MMSU Foundation Inc.

In addition, a monthly fee of P1,500 will also be collected to cover snacks, instructional materials, and teacher’s and teacher aide’s salary and other benefits , incentive for supervisory and support staff, and travel expenses for supervisory activities.

At present, CTE is now conducting initial screening for children who wish to enroll this school year. Parents who are interested may contact CTE or the Registrar’s Office.
