<font size="5"><span style="font-weight: bold;">JPIAns dominate regional contest</span></font>

ACCOUNTANCY students who are members of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) once again proved their supremacy over their counterparts in Region I and the Cordillera Administrative Region during the 6th Regional Mid-year Convention held at the Supreme Hotel in Baguio City, Sept. 21-23.

Julius Ver de Guzman emerged champion in the SGV Cup Level 1 while Emmanuel Bryan Jimenez got the same place in on-the-spot poem writing contest. The Drama Group, likewise, went away with the championship title.

Other winners were:  Leophil Rasco – first runner up, basic accounting wizard; Karl Nick Balintec – first runner up, regional trivia quiz show; Jefferson Aguinaldo – second runner up, KPMG/RESA PFRS Quiz Bee; Meldrick Gaoiran – third runner up, practical accounting quiz; and Kathleen Anne Hortelano, fourth runner up, CAT Cup Level 1.

As of press time, the winners are in La Carmela de Boracay in Boracay Island, Aklan to represent the region in the National Mid-year Convention.

Aside from joining the competitions, the delegates also attended lectures where they were oriented about their future in the accountancy profession and taught how to be competitive in the business world.

Meanwhile, three third year tourism management students were adjudged champion in the Regional Tourism Quiz Show held in celebration of National Tourism Week.  They were:  Rhea Liza D. Barangan, Karan Kate A. Bareng, and Ma. Carmel B. Guerrero.  They beat contestants from 16 other colleges and universities offering tourism and hotel and restaurant and management programs in Region I.
