TWO professors from the Kyoto University (KU) International Innovation Center (IIC) in Japan visited the university July 26 to introduce the school’s international programs and activities and the applications of science and technology in the environment, biomedicine, engineering, and the arts.

Dr. Ari Ide-Ektessabi, professor of biosystems electronics of KU-IIC and director of the Technology Seed Incubation Co. Ltd. in Japan, presented a background of the research activities of the IIC and some research topics on their laboratory implants, neurodegeneration, environmental analysis applications in biomedicine, and art.  He also mentioned about technology seeds incubation.

On the other hand, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, biology professor of MMSU and currently a visiting associate professor at KU-IIC, spoke on the brief history of KU, its organizational structure, faculty, staff, and student populations, and the recent developments towards the university’s realization of its 21st century center of excellence program.  She also presented some recent initiatives under the international relations program of the Japan university.  Dr. Agrupis represented Dr. Akio Toshimitsu, professor and research management chief of KU-IIC, who was not able to make it for the forum.

The recent visit of Japanese professors at MMSU is still part of the university’s efforts to establish partnership with other universities not only in the Philippines but also abroad for the upgrading of competencies of faculty and staff through exchange programs as well as for possible research funding.
