<P><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=5><STRONG>HS students rule English Olympics </STRONG></FONT></P>
STUDENTS from the University High Schools in Batac and Laoag dominated the English Olympics sponsored by the Department of Education’s Divisions of Ilocos Norte and Laoag City in separate dates and venues.
The Batac group of Jean August Dominique Monsod, Peniel Montante, Marc Renmel Abiva, John Lois Padayao, Hanna Danica Pastor (alternate), and Vina Erika Cuanang (alternate) capped the quiz bee while Natalie Claire Abarquez did the same in declamation. Romeo Abucay and Marlene Cabagan coached the quizzers and the declamation contestant, respectively.
Moreover, Josiah Patrick Bagayas emerged second place in spelling bee; Cleofer Versoza, third place – oration; and John Lois Padayao, fourth place – essay writing. Professors Yolanda Pablo, Arsenio Gallego, and Lucita Feril served as their coaches.
The winners were awarded medals and certificates of merit. MMSU was also presented a certificate of recognition for having bagged the overall championship.
Abarquez and the group of Monsod represented the province in the regional finals on Oct. 18 at the City of San Fernando, La Union. There, Abarquez garnered third place in declamation.
Meanwhile, Kevin Bill Alcid and Juan Valeriano Respicio IV of LHS Laoag emerged first place in declamation and essay writing, respectively. Beatriz Kay Datu got the second place in spelling bee while Francis Harmon Lib-on was third place in oration. Jeanette Dials, Jahnese Asuncion, and James Ventura served as coaches.
The winners, likewise, represented the Division of Laoag in the regional finals at the La Union national High School, Oct. 17-18.
