<P><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=5><STRONG>Faculty regent is nat’l faculty confederation prexy </STRONG></FONT></P>

FEDERATED Faculty Association President and Faculty Regent Andres Y. Tungpalan has been elected national president of the Philippine National Confederation of Faculty Associations in State Universities and Colleges (PNFASUC).

This was learned after he attended the PNFASUC National Work-Conference at the Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City, Oct. 25-27.  He was former vice president for Luzon.  He was elected to the new position after their Malolos conference in July.

As national president, he sits as member of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges executive board representing interest of faculty in all SUCs in the country.

He informed News for the Week of their output in the national work-conference which included approval of resolutions on the following:  restoration of subsidy of MOOE in all SUCs; support to a move that all review centers be accredited under the jurisdiction, supervision, and control of the Commission on Higher Education; support to a House bill that the Professional Regulation Commission be placed under the supervision of the Civil Service Commission; and reiteration of the standardization of teaching and work load equivalency of faculty and administrative staff designations.

According to him, they also worked out for the immediate action by the House on an act adopting an omnibus job classification and compensation standardization system in the civil service appropriating funds for that purpose.  They also approved a resolution for a House bill requiring faculty members to go on voluntary retirement at 55 and compulsory retirement at 60.

The conference worked with the theme “Facing fiscal challenges toward effective operation and delivery of services of state universities and colleges.”.
