COE Maroons reign in UniGames anew

For the seventh time, the COE Maroons emerged as the overall champions at the close of the 2019 University Games held at the MMSU sports complex on November 4-8.

Based on the official overall results furnished by the MMSU Center for Human Movement Studies (CHuMS), the reigning COE Maroons yelled another tumultuous victory when it got 61.31%, a way behind its closest rival, the CAFSD Tamaraws, which landed second with only 44.53%.

Meanwhile, the CBEA Eagles remained third in the overall ranking, earning 39.52%, a hairline victory against the CIT Red Lions, which finished fourth with 38.85%.

Other teams -- the CTE Rabbi, CHS Knights, CAS Wizards, and CASAT Blue Marlins -- finished fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth places garnering 33.45%, 17.42%, 11.42%, and 9.36%, respectively.

The College of Medicine Titans and the College of Law Defenders also joined in the UniGames for exhibition games in volleyball and basketball where the former won.

The eight college teams competed in 15 sports disciplines - athletics, badminton, baseball, softball, beach volleyball, chess, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, soccer, futsal, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and basketball; and four cultural events - dance sports (standard and latin), parade, signature cheers and yells, and fearless forecast.

The UniGames served as an activity to select able players that will comprise the MMSU varsity teams which will compete in the 2020 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games, hoping to maintain the university's supremacy in regional sports for the 17th time.

Themed "Stallions in Synergy," the opening of the UniGames last November 4 was graced by Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
