THREE PAPERS by College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT) dean were accepted for presentation in the 8th Asian Fisheries Forum on Nov. 20-23 in Kochi, India.
The paper “Catching efficiency of multiple handline operated in Payaw areas” by Prof. Facundo B. Asia and Rodan R. Garcia was presented orally under the subject: living aquatic resources and capture fisheries and management. On the other hand, “Optimizing feed ration for somatic growth and gonad production of the sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla (Linnaeus, 1758)” by Asia and “The effect of prepared diet on the somatic and gonad growth performance of the sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla (Linnaeus, 1758)” by Asia, Joji Grace C. Villamor, and Jogel C. Faylogna were presented through posters under the area: aquaculture production system and management and productivity enhancement.
Prof. Asia represented the other paper authors to the said forum which gathered fisheries scientists to address the emerging concerns that fisheries and aquaculture are facing amidst the threats of globalization and environmental degradation.
The CASAT dean’s paper on “Catching efficiency of multiple handline operated in Payaw areas” is based on a study aimed at determining which of the artificial lures – handlines with different hook distances and time of fishing operation would give the best yield using the cost and return analysis.
The conference provided Prof. Asia an opportunity to disseminate his research findings to the intenational community and expose him to the emerging gaps in strategic and anticipatory research in fisheries and aquaculture.
Asia’s participation in the said forum was granted financial assistance by the Commission on Higher Education to cover expenses of round trip airfare economy class, per diem, registration fee, and other incidental expenses relative to his travel.
