MMSU constituents may now avail of new services offered by the University Clinic. But that is, at very minimal fee. And the Board of Regents (BOR) has approved of it.
With newly acquired equipment, the health unit of the university can now offer/perform electrocardiography (ECG), blood sugar screening, amalgam filling, light cure filling, oral prophylaxis, and minor surgical operation.
To operate fully and maintain these equipment, however, the unit is going to charge some fees in the performance of the mentioned procedures as follows: ECG – P200; blood sugar screening – P80; amalgam filling – P200; light cure filling – P200; oral prophylaxis – P100; and minor surgical operation – P500. Except for ECG, blood sugar screening, and oral prophylaxis, the rest of the services are 50 percent lower than the amount charged by outside clinics, according to Dr. Leonisa A. Silvestre, medical officer III.
Silvestre said that the fee collected from the services would be used to purchase tracing fee for the ECG, strips and lancets for the glucometer, amalgam for the amalgamator, light cure composite for the light cure filling, prophy brush and prophy paste for the oral prophylaxis, and gloves, sutures, needles, and anesthesia for the minor surgeries.
“This [collection of service fees] is not to give another burden to the university,” Dr. Sivestre said.
Meanwhile, the records management section is increasing fees collected for the issuance of service records and employment certificates to resigned and retired university personnel. According to Ms. Joy Gertrud R. Flojo, section chief, said documents are generated from the computer and with the high cost of paper and ink for printing, the increase is justifiable. From P20, P50 is now collected as payment for the issuance of the said documents. The BOR has approved this in its latest meeting.
