JANILL Ignacio Magano , an incoming fourth year BS Biology student of the College of Arts and Sciences has been selected as one of the 13 Bayer Young Environmental Envoys for 2007.

Magano’s entries for the Eco-Minds Forum and Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) sponsored by Bayer Philippines have qualified him to undergo the international qualifying interview for the Eco-Minds Forum and the national qualifying interview for BYEE at the Hotel Intercontinental in Makati City last May 7.

There were over 80 national participants for the Eco-Minds Forum but only 10 were invited to attend the qualifying interview. On the other hand, there were over 100 participants and only 13 were chosen.

Magano was the lone participant who submitted two entries but was asked to choose only one entry to pursue. He then chose the one he submitted for the BYEE due to the urgency of his waste management proposal although it would be requiring him more and bigger hurdles compared to his paper for the Eco-minds Forum which makes him only a step away to the International Forum in Thailand.

As a Bayer Young Environmental Envoy, he will be attending on Sept. 15-19 a live-in Eco-Camp together with the rest of the selected envoys from various parts of the country. The camp aims to give the envoys an overview of the Philippine environment and the current efforts of various sectors at addressing environmental problems. At the end of the Eco-Camp will be the presentation of accomplishments or the partial implementation of the proposed environmental program of the 13 finalists for final judging at the Hotel Intercontinental Hotel on Sept. 20. This will be capped by an Awards Presentation Night at the Grand Ballroom of the hotel to be witnessed by their parents and school representatives. The top four of the 13 finalists will join their counterparts from around the world in an all- expense paid educational trip to Germany on Nov. 18-23.
