ASCU-SN conducts webinar series for member-schools

The Association of State Colleges and Universities – Solid North (ASCU), in partnership with the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), is conducting a series of webinar for its member-schools as a strategic intervention to enable knowledge exchange on educational breakthroughs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically organized by the ASCU-SN’s North Luzon Quadrangle Education Research and Development Consortium, the webinar series will run from September to November 2020.

According to ASCU-SN and MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis, the virtual activity “serves as initial step to build a more resilient education system among the association’s member-state universities and colleges (SUCs).”

She added that the activity involves discussion of various topics in line with educational development, health response, logistic services support industry, tourism, peace and sustainable development, agriculture, food security, rural finance, and climate change, among other things.

To jumpstart this initiative, experts in mental health and regenerative thinking were invited to talk on the topic, “Institutional Health Response and Education Development in the New Normal.”

Dr. Ricardo S. Guanzon, dean of the MMSU College of Medicine, had already discussed “The Science of COVID-19” last September 15.

On September 24, Prof. Hai Dai Nguyen, president and co-founder of WOW Bali Inc., in Bali, Indonesia, will tackle “Regenerative Thinking as Influenced by Creativity and Artistry through Information and Communication Technology in the New Normal.

Another webinar titled “Pursuing Postgraduate Education in Canadian Universities” will also be conducted on September 29, in partnership with the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines.

Ms. Angel Cachuela, Trade Commissioner of the Canadian Embassy, will discuss “Sharing Dreams of Quality Education and Research Endeavor for the Future.”

For October and November webinar activities, the ASCU-SN and MMSU have already tapped experts from various reputable organizations in the country as speakers.

For instance, Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., president and chief executive officer (CEO) of The Institutes for Research, Innovation and Scholarships, will talk about “Strategic Management Interventions in Coping the Challenges of Educational Institution in the New Normal” on October 6, while Dr. Gloria Jumamil-Mercado, undersecretary of the Office of the Cabinet Secretary in Malacañang, will discuss the “Sustainable Peace for Education and Community Development during the COVID-19 Pandemic” on October 20.

Also, Mr. Elmer Francisco U. Sarmiento, President and CEO of Royal Cargo, Inc. at the Manila South Harbour Area, will talk about the “Responsiveness and Resiliency on the Logistics Support Industry in the New Normal” on November 10, while Dr. Prasun Das, secretary general of the Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association, will tackle the “Influence of Rural and Agricultural Finance for Sustainable Community Development in the New Normal,” on November 17.

“By conducting this webinar series, I am looking forward to more initiatives that can unify our academic, research, and internationalization programs so that we continuously share the solid north’s common vision and goals,” Dr. Agrupis said.
