Alumnus to join WCOPA Team 2020

Ferdinand Teodoro Jr., a graduate of BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering at MMSU in 2005, is taking the final step to become a member of the elite Philippine delegation for the 24th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) competition.

The WCOPA Team Philippines is currently looking for aspiring singers, musicians, dancers, variety artists, actors and models who will represent the country in the Olympic-style international competition to be held in California, United States on July 24 to August 2, 2020.

A native of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, this former member of the MMSU Nasudi Chorale joined the audition for vocal solo at the SM Megamall in Metro Manila last September 17. He was one of the finalists who will undergo the final briefing on October 14.

“I am overwhelmed because I was luckily selected for the final briefing, and I really hope that I will become part of the WCOPA Team Philippines for 2020,” he beamed, adding that he is now preparing to perform different songs for the final part of the selection process.

If qualified as member of the delegation, Teodoro said the expenses for the WCOPA competition ranges from PhP 250,000 to PhP 300,000 which is shouldered either by the participant himself or by the team through fund-raising activities, sponsorships, among others.

“I was somehow surprised of the amount, but if qualified, I will continue this competition because this is a rare opportunity for me to showcase my God-given talent to the world, which was developed while I was studying at MMSU,” he beamed.

Teodoro said that he wanted to join in prestigious singing competitions but cannot do it because he was focusing on his profession as a radio frequency engineer at the Huawei Technologies in Thailand.

After working in Thailand for five years, he came back to the Philippines in July and is now preparing for the Pearson Test of English (PTE), an examination given for Australian Skilled Immigrants.

“After learning that the WCOPA Team Philippines is conducting auditions this year, I immediately joined while preparing for the PTE, anyway I am not working yet,” he said.

Before this, Teodoro was a three-time national representative of the 4-H club in singing competitions.
