A PAPER on “Re-Map: A decision support system for mapping renewable energy sources in the Philippines” the bagged the third place in the Best Paper competition during the 5th Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE) International Exhibition and 57th PSAE Annual National Convention held April 15-20 at the Philippine Carabao Center based at the Central Luzon State University in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Vizcaya.

The paper was authored and presented by Dr. Carlos M. Pascual, faculty member of the department of agricultural engineering of CAF and director of the Office of External Affairs and Partnership, and was under the energy, environment, and bio-systems engineering category.

In the same convention, Pascual also received his award for placing first in the Best Paper competition during the same convention held last year in Butuan City.  At that time, he presented a paper on the “Commercialization of improved biomass cookstoves in the Philippines”.

According to him, the annual national gathering of agricultural engineers was highlighted by the speech of Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap where he mentioned some pillar programs for centers of excellence (COE)/development of HEIs that support the agriculture and fisheries sectors through research, development, and extension on technology commercialization for possible funding.  A public hearing was also conducted, he said, by CHED’s  Technical Panel for Agricultural Engineering on the proposal to replace BSAE into BS in Agricultural and Bio-systems Engineering to be piloted in COEs in AE.
