AACCUP cites 7 MMSU programs

T HE BOARD of Trustees of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Incorporated has finally awarded accreditation status to seven academic programs of the university.

On behalf of the accrediting agency, MMSU President Miriam E. Pascua during the Feb. 20 administrative council meeting handed over the certificates to the respective deans of the colleges whose program offerings have achieved accredited positions.

The certificates were signed by AACCUP President and Board Chairman Rosario P. Pimentel and dated Dec. 29, 2005. The elementary and secondary teacher education programs of the College of Teacher Education were both awarded Level III (re-accredited) status.

The said programs are so far, the highest accredited offerings in the university. They will enjoy the status, which was officially awarded to them Dec. 1, 2005, until Nov. 30, 2010.

The civil, mechanical, electrical, and ceramic engineering programs of the College of Engineering were cited for Level II (re-accredited) status, also effective Dec. 1, 2005. Except for the civil engineering program whose standing will expire on Nov. 30, 2010, the level of the rest of the said offerings will last until Nov. 30, 2008.

The computer science program of the College of Arts and Sciences was, likewise, cited for achieving Level II (reaccredited status) position which will also expire on Nov. 30,

2010.

Meanwhile, the colleges of agriculture and forestry and industrial technology have also passed the second resurvey visit for Level III and is now getting ready for the final visit slated tentatively in November this year.

Eight AACCUP survey teams came over to MMSU Nov. 14, 2005 to evaluate 11 curricular programs of the university vying then for different levels of accreditation.

Accreditation is a process by which an institution at the tertiary and graduate levels evaluates its educational activities, in whole or in part, and seeks and independent judgment to confirm that it substantially achieves its objectives and is generally equal in quality to comparable institutions. AACCUP is one – and the youngest – of the four agencies in the country whose main function is to accredit curricular programs.
