Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) strengthened its partnerships with local institutions and farming communities through a series of project visits from October 26 to 28 in Nueva Vizcaya, Cagayan, and Ifugao to promote improved garlic production technologies.

The visits were conducted under the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD)-funded project, “Scaling-out Improved Garlic Production through Integrated Crop Management for Garlic in Northern Luzon and Selected Expansion Areas,” which seeks to expand the adoption of science-based production practices among garlic farmers.

The project team met with local government units, state universities and colleges, and farmer-cooperators in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya; Peñablanca, Tuguegarao, Cagayan; Cagayan State University-Piat; and Ifugao State University.

During the engagements, the team discussed the project’s objectives, planned activities, expected outputs, and the respective responsibilities of partner institutions and participating farmers. Planting materials and other farm inputs were also distributed to support project implementation in the identified areas.

The discussions focused on strengthening coordination among project partners and encouraging the adoption of Integrated Crop Management practices to improve garlic production in Northern Luzon and selected expansion areas.

Through the initiative, MMSU and its partner institutions aim to bring improved agricultural technologies closer to farming communities, increase garlic productivity, and promote more sustainable crop management practices among Filipino farmers.
