MMSU inks GCash deal for campus QR payments
By Myrrha Prima Rosa Muli
Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) formalized its partnership with G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI), the operator of GCash, through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing on October 28 to introduce scan-to-pay services for university transactions.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., Vice President for Resource Generation and Management Bjorn Santos, Director for Financial Management Services Christine Mae Piza, and GCash North Luzon Account Manager Marvin Valdez led the signing.
Director for Strategic Business Development Angelina Abrojena, Accounting Office Chief Imelda Corpuz, and Cash Office Chief Amelita Puntilan stood as witnesses to the signing of advancing the university’s efforts to modernize financial services and expand cashless payment options for its community.
Under the agreement, GXI will provide MMSU, as a merchant, with GCash scan-to-pay services and the related tools needed to facilitate QR code payments.
The QR codes have already been rolled out to offices, business and concessionaires across MMSU and are now being used for campus transactions, allowing the university community to make payments through Gcash scan-to-pay services.
Mr. Valdez expressed hope that the university community would welcome the new payment option and enjoy the convenience of cashless transactions.
Meanwhile, President Manzano highlights the initiative as part of the university’s efforts to advance digital governance by integrating technology into its financial services and making transactions more convenient and efficient for the university community.
The partnership builds on discussions held on March 16, when university officials and GCash representatives explored cashless payment solutions and financial literacy initiatives to improve transaction convenience and support MMSU’s transition to digital financial services.
Through the initiative, MMSU aims to make payments more accessible and efficient for students and other members of the university community, including those who travel from distant provinces, while supporting its goal of becoming an ASEAN-ready university.
