Harmony and honor overflowed the Sorsogon Cultural Center, as the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Nasudi Chorale reached Grand Prix finals in 1st Kasanggayahan “Tingog Sorsoganon” National Choral Festival and Competition held on October 16-18 in Bacon, Sorsogon City.
Among the 16 participating choirs, Nasudi Chorale advanced to the Grand Prix finals alongside other qualifiers, including Bulacan Master Chorale, UST Coro Tomasino, Nova Ensemble, Dasmariñas Chamber Singers, and Oroquieta Chamber Singers.
The ensemble also earned three Level II Golden Diplomas in the folk choir, sacred choir, and mixed choir categories, recognizing its performance across the three divisions.
According to the competition’s scoring system, the diplomas reflect the choir’s scores in the respective categories, which results will be the baseline for the qualification of a Grand Prix finalist.
Thrilled with joy, Mr. Vince Salacup, Choir conductor shared how their month-long preparations and sacrifices lead to this achievement.
“The two-month journey of ups and downs was worth it because qualifying for the Grand Prix was a significant achievement for us. It showed that we could also hold our own against well-known and well-established choirs from across the country,” Mr. Salacup said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the singers for their dedication, the financial sponsors who supported the group, and the university for allowing them to participate in the national competition.
“I also thank the singers for their persistence, dedication, and undying commitment to prepare for this very big engagement, for the financial sponsors who selflessly shared amounts from their personal pockets, and the university administration for allowing us to compete and represent the school,” he added.
Human Movement and Artistic Innovation Center Director Ryan Dean Sucgang congratulated the chorale for bringing another achievement to the university. He also thanked President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. for supporting the ensemble during the preparation until the competition.
The achievement highlights MMSU’s commitment in promoting culture and the arts while bringing the spirit of Ilocandia to the national stage.
