Upholding a legacy of excellence as it approaches 50 years, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) commenced its countdown to its golden foundation anniversary during the flag-raising ceremony held at the university’s twin gate today, August 24.
Undeterred by the effects of the Southwest Monsoon this morning, the entire MMSU community stood in resolute unity to start the countdown toward the university’s 2028 milestone. This event also included the unveiling of the official 50th anniversary seal and a preview of the commemorative anniversary song.
The university’s vice presidents spearheaded the special flag-raising ceremony, while Prof. Herdy Yumul, director of the Strategic Communication Office, formally introduced the anniversary seal to the academic community.
In a powerful display of institutional pride, the anniversary banner was hoisted alongside the different flags of the various colleges, accompanied by the MMSU Hymn.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. then urged the MMSU community to continue the momentum, as the remaining 499 days will be a real test for everyone, as this will contribute big to the long-term goal of the university to be a premier university in Southeast Asia.
In the event, the official design of the annual rice paddy art was also revealed. Deviating from the usual feature of figureheads, this year’s design centers on an ASEAN-themed design, showing its support for the country’s hosting of the 48th and 49th ASEAN Summits this year.
Additionally, MMSU will hold activities every 50 days leading up to the 2028 anniversary; the launch of the rice paddy art will be the first of the slated activities.
