The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council (CAS-SC) of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) gathered awards for spoken poetry and songwriting during the recently concluded International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) 2025 at Nasugbu, Batangas on November 21-23.
The student council was hailed champion with their spoken poetry entry anchored with the event’s theme, “Strength in Action: Harnessing the Collective Power of Youth to Lead with a Heart, Purpose, and Integrity."
The spoken poetry piece, “The Power We Carry,” was written and delivered by the council’s secretary, Vineau Medel Camua, a third-year sociology student. His piece talked about how the youth should always choose to lead with courage, strength, and truth even when it is not easy.
The piece portrayed that leadership is not just about being powerful, but about showing up, working together, and helping others create change.
Additionally, they also won second place in the Song Writing and Video Making contest. The song and video were produced by Rhayver Tangonan, the council’s assistant secretary and a third-year communication student. Other students in the college include Adrian Camado, second-year student from the same program; Ifan Samuel Viloria, third-year biology student; and Marc Gapusan, second-year English Language student. CAS-SC adviser Jhon Sherwin Duran served as their consultant.
The song titled, “𝘒𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘢𝘯, 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦,” encourages the youth to use their voices to initiate meaningful change in the society, leading with purpose and integrity. Its music video featured the San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, a World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO. The rest of the student council officers and student volunteers also helped in the production.
These awards were garnered by the student council, upon receiving the Outstanding Club and Outstanding Cultural Worker awards from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The student council was accompanied to Batangas by their adviser, Mr. Duran, and Ms. Joyce Castillo, the Student Affairs and Services Coordinator of CAS.
