Fostering a healthier community in its 46th year, Mariano Marcos State University organized the first-ever NUTRITALK on January 11 at the MMSU SIP Hub. This lecture-cooking demo aims to promote a healthy lifestyle among MMSU constituents and stakeholders.

Themed “ACHIEVE a Healthy Lifestyle,” the event was a collaboration of the College of Medicine (CoM), College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) Tourism and Hospitality Management Department, College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) Food Technology Department, College of Industrial Technology (CIT) Food Processing and Service Management Department, and the University Infirmary.

Nutritalk targeted the creation of a community dedicated to supporting and advocating balanced lifestyles. Furthermore, it highlights the university’s desire to have a “Blue Zone”, a specific scope of area where its people live longer due to their pristine health conditions.

In the opening program, MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis promised to make MMSU the first blue zone university in the Philippines. Dr. Policarpio Joves Jr, the dean of the College of Medicine, served as the event’s sole lecturer. He discussed details of architecting the “Blue Zone MMSU”, where the university’s constituents would be less vulnerable to health compromises, and as a result, would live a longer life.

Students, faculty members and staff, ATBI Incubatees, and the MMSU Administrative Council served as the events’ attendees. After the lecture proper, students from the Hospitality Management Program held a cooking demo, and served “banana oatmeal pancake” and “green giant juice” to the attendees. Prof. Harylynn Antonio, chair of the tourism and hospitality management department, chaired the Foodarama Committee.
