MMSU is overall champ in PASUC sports, culture and the arts competition

FOR THE 13th time since 2004, Team Stallions of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) emerged anew as champion in annual SCUAA sports competition, and PASUC-1 culture and the arts festival held at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) in Bacnotan, La Union.

The culture and the arts festival was held earlier, October 29-30, while the SCUAA was held last December 4-8.

Beating its five other opponents in the SCUAA – DMMMSU, UNP, ISPSC, NLPSC and PSU — the MMSU has garnered a total of 374 points in sports competition, a slight gap victory over DMMMSU which garnered 358 points. Tailing behind were PSU, UNP, ISPSC and NLPSC which garnered 262, 207.5, 104.5 and 22 points respectively.

The stallions were champions in 10 events, while DMMMSU got only eight. The events which MMSU became champion were athletics women, swimming men and women, basketball women, volleyball women, baseball, soccer, badminton women, chess men, and Miss SCUAA.

PSU, on the other hand landed third in overall standing after it dominated its opponents in seven events which included sepak takraw, tae-kwon-do men, table tennis men and women, chess women, beach volleyball men, and in Mr. SCUAA.

The UNP, which placed third in overall standing in 2014 SCUAA has slid down to fourth place after it won only three championship fights.

Earlier, the stallions fared in the culture and the arts festival having adjudged champion in nine of the 23 events. The stallions were able to earn the following: trophy and gold medal in vocal solo (kundiman), trophy and silver medal in instrumental solo (classic guitar), a certificate in pagsusulat ng sanaysay, trophy and silver medal in live band, trophy and bronze medal in on-the-spot painting contest, and a certificate in hip hop dance competition.

“On the whole, the MMSU still led other PASUC-1 schools with 18 points which proved that we had not lost our winning streak in the nationals,” said Dr. Ma. Victoria R. Domingo, chief of the cultural affairs. (By Reynaldo E. Andres)
