Gov’t financial mg’t practitioners trained

Public financial management (PFM) practitioners from various government agencies in Regions I, II and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) were trained on August 22 on areas of PFM competency program (PFMCP) to enhance their competencies in budgeting, internal audit and cash management, among other.

Held at the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), the training was jointly conducted by MMSU, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and the Bureau of the Treasury.

"MMSU was selected by the DBM as the delivering institution of competency program," said Dr. Angeline Abrojena, dean of MMSU's College of Business, Economics and Accountancy (CBEA) who was one of the service providers of PFMCP, saying that the trainees are involved in finance, accounting, budgeting, and procurement services of their respective agencies who would become service providers, too, of the program in northern Luzon.

Dr. Abrojena said that trainees consisted the second batch after the conduct of the first batch last August 8-10. She said the next batch will be trained in September.

"The foundation track covers five areas such as program overview, building PFM understanding, effective collaboration, principles of internal control, and using data for decision-making," she explained.

Served as resource speakers of the training were two officials from the DBM and six employees from MMSU. They were Kristofer Brian D. Carpio and Ria V. Bansigan, budget management specialists of the DBM; and Margarita G. Hilario, Charito B. Julian, Lenie G. Bayangos, Oscar M. Agpaoa, Christine Mae B. Piza, and Kevin John D. Austria of MMSU.

After the first track of PFMCP, Abrojena said the PFM practitioners in northern Luzon still need to undergo three tracks - budget and performance, internal audit, and cash management.
