MMSU-CTE hosts SUCTEA Regional Conference

The State Universities and Colleges Teacher Education Association (SUCTEA) Region I held its 4th Regional Conference on December 12 at the MMSU College of Teacher Education (CTE) CTEx Hall, bringing together educators, administrators, and officers from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Region I.
Hosted by MMSU CTE, the conference featured keynote and thematic sessions led by education leaders and academic experts, anchored on the theme, “Bridging Borders in Teacher Education: Advancing Quality, Mobility, and Cultural Exchange.”
The keynote address, titled “Globalizing Teacher Education: Strengthening Regional Capacities for International Collaboration and Excellence,” was delivered by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis. In her address, Dr. Agrupis emphasized strengthening regional capacities of SUCs to engage in international collaboration while sustaining quality and excellence in teacher education.
Another keynote session, “Crossing Borders, Sharing Knowledge: The Role of SUCs in Global Teacher Education Reform,” was delivered by Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta- Diego, Director of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I. Her talk focused on cross-border collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the role of SUCs in strengthening global teacher education reform.
The conference also featured thematic lectures, including “Educational Justice, Epistemic Equity, and the Post-Decolonization of Amianan Consciousness: The Case for the Ilocos Region,” presented by Dr. Aurelio Agcaoili, Department Chair of Indo-Pacific Languages and Literatures at the University of Hawai‘i; “SUCs’ Role in Global Teacher Education Reform: The Pangasinan State University’s Experience,” by Dr. Cristeta Dulos, Regional Hub Focal Person for Global Citizenship Education; and “Teacher Mobility and Cultural Exchange: Opportunities and Challenges in the Regional Context,” by Prof. Jeanette Dials, MMSU Director for International Linkages and Partnerships.
Dr. Imelda Najorda, SUCTEA R1 Secretary and one of the lead organizers, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the conference. "As program coordinator, the conference was organized as part of SUCTEA’s continuing commitment to design and implement programs that mobilize the expertise and services of teacher education institutions, providing a collaborative platform to enhance, innovate, and further improve teacher education programs in the region and beyond," she said.
MMSU CTE Dean Ronald Candy Lasaten likewise underscored the importance of the conference in promoting collaboration, shared leadership, and the collective advancement of teacher education.
The conference also included the regular election of SUCTEA officers for Region I, with Dr. Cedric Anthony Ochoco being re-elected as the Chairperson of SUCTEA R1.
A total of 97 participants attended the conference, including educators and officials from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, University of Northern Philippines, Pangasinan State University, and Mariano Marcos State University.
The 4th SUCTEA Region I Conference served as a venue for academic exchange and engagement, reinforcing collaboration among State Universities and Colleges in advancing teacher education in the region.
