Five faculty members trained on sports coaching
Coaching is not just about winning, it is about creating an environment where life-changing experiences happen.
This is the biggest lesson participants learned during the National Training Workshop for Sports Coaching held Jan. 28-29 at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology, Cagayan de Oro City. Organized by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges, the two-day event updated participants on the current trends in scientific coaching and training. The revised SCUAA guidelines were also discussed.
Five MMSU faculty members joined delegates from various SUCs around the country: Prof. Arsenio Gallego, CHuMS director; Mr. Clarence Ordonia, sports chief; and CAS physical education instructors Allan Joy Calventas, Rafael Simeon, and June Baoit II.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Baoit said in an interview: “We are glad that young faculty members like us are given the opportunity to be trained by the best in the country.” He said that they are very eager to apply their newfound knowledge to make MMSU, which already has the best sports program in Northern Philippines, soar even higher in its achievements.
The list of prominent speakers was topbilled by Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong, team captain of the famous Philippine Azkals.
Unfortunately, the SCUAA national games will not be staged this year as per decision of the National PASUC Executive Board due to hosting difficulties.
