Enlistment now online
IN AN effort to make the registration process more efficient and economical, the Office of the University Registrar (OUR), in tandem with the Information Communication and Training Center, and the CAS Department of Computer Science, has introduced the On-Line Enlistment System (OLES), which allows students to enlist subjects through the Internet.
Dr. Wilma C. Natividad, university registrar and admissions director, says the OLES is in consonance with the 10-point agenda of University President Miriam E. Pascua, which is \"to improve facilities, technologies, and systems to be of better service to our students.\"
\"The OLES will be of great benefit, especially to students who live from afar as they no longer have to come to the campus personally to enlist,\" explains Dr. Natividad.
Lhing-ai Estabillo, a second year Civil Engineering student, is one of those who are happy with the introduction of OLES. Coming from Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, Estabillo is glad that she will now be able to spend more time with her family during semestral breaks. During the enrolment for the first semester, she cut short her summer vacation, travelled to Batac to enroll, then went home again to Cagayan until she had to return to Batac after a week for the opening of classes.
Reached by News for the Week via mobile phone, Estabillo says the OLES is a very good development especially in these times of financial crisis. She is currently helping her parents tend their farm, and will not return to Batac until Nov. 3 to pay her dues.
As of press time, Oct. 27, 3:00 p.m., 45 students have already enlisted online, half of them from the Laoag campuses.
OLES, which opened 8:00 a.m. of Oct. 26 and will close at 5:00 p.m. of Oct. 28, is intended for those who were regular students during the First Semester, AY 2009-2010. The student who intends to use the OLES should have secured an On-Line Enlistment Key (OLEK) released Oct. 19-23 by the OUR. The OLEK can be used only once by the student assigned to it.
The student prints the Temporary On-Line Form 5 to be signed by the advising officer or the Scholarship Committee and uses this to claim the Official Form 5 from the Accounting Office on Nov. 3-4, the schedule for the payment of fees.
Those who are under scholarship may also enlist online. However, evaluation by the Scholarship Committee in charge and re-assessment must be conducted prior to payment.
The student can only be considered officially enrolled after payment of fees and issuance of validated class cards.
On Oct. 22 at the FEM Hall Conference Room, ICTC personnel trained college secretaries and OUR staff on the use of OLES, which was developed by Computer Programmer Arman A. Barruga and computer science instructors Wilben R. Pagtaconan and Vincent B. Fortela, with the supervision of ICTC Director Reynold P. Villacillo.
